Skippylongstocking is a bay horse bred by Brushy Hill, LLC.. He is sired by Exaggerator, out of a War Chant mare named Twinkling. Skippylongstocking was sold as a yearling at the 2021 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training for $37,000 to Daniel Alonso.[11][12]
Racing career
2021: Two-year-old season
Skippylongstocking started his career with three different Maiden races before starting in the Street Sense Stakes, where he finished fourth;[13][14] he has run four races into his two-year-old season, winning only one race and earning $53,500.
2022: Three-year-old season
During Skippylongstocking's three-year-old the notable races won are Harlan's Holiday Stakes[15] and the West Virginia Derby.[16] It was also recommended that the conditions for the Belmont Distance would be right for Skippy;[17] the earnings were $724,310 and had three wins during the year.
2023: Four-year-old season
This year the most notable wins for this horse are the 2023 Challenger Stakes and the 2023 Charles Town Classic. There was a close win for the 2023 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap;[18] this year he participated in the Breeders' Cup getting third behind Cody's Wish and National Treasure, this years earnings are $816,375.
2024: Five-year-old season
This year Skippy did not start well not finishing his first race of the year by walking off.[19] After two months of resting Skippy won the Challenger Stakes [20] and the Oaklawn Handicap[21] marking the first time where Skippy won two stakes races in a row.
2025: Six-year-old season
Michelob Ultra Challenger Stakes[22] and Hollywood Gold Cup Stakes were the wins for this horse.[23] This year Skippy got the lowest Equibase speed rating for its career at the Charles Town Classic Stakes finishing 8th where this horse normally succeeded in years past.[24]
