Sarah Chandler Coates
Sarah Chandler Coates (1829–1897) was an abolitionist and suffragette. She was known as the "Queen of Quality Hill,"[1] where she was a social leader.[2]
Sarah Chandler Coates was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She moved to Kansas City when she married Kersey Coates, a fellow Quaker with anti-slavery beliefs. Coates was friends with Susan B. Anthony.[2][1] She led women's groups and a suffrage club in Kansas City.[2] Coates died in 1897.
