General elections are scheduled to be held in the Bahamas by September 2026 to elect all 41 members of the House of Assembly.[2][3]
Background
In the 2021 election, the Progressive Liberal Party of then opposition leader Philip Davis won a landslide victory against the incumbent Free National Movement led by then Prime Minister Hubert Minnis, securing 32 seats and 52.59% of the popular vote.
Electoral system
Members of the House of Assembly are elected from single-member constituencies using first-past-the-post voting.[4] The majority party then selects the Prime Minister, who is appointed by the Governor-General.[5]
