Caste/Community

Nai or Nayee Brahmin is an Artesian Community of India.

Historically, they were people known for their skills as a surgeon and for traditional healing practices, and many were referred to as Vaidyas (traditional medical practitioners).

With the introduction of Western medicine during the British Raj, a number of them gradually shifted toward occupations such as hairdresser and related services. In recent times, however, members of the community have revived their traditional healing practices while also participating in a wide range of modern professions and sectors.
