History

Michigan Auto Law Firm was established in 1969 by Lawrence E. “Larry” Gursten, a Wayne State University Law School graduate. He achieved the highest score in the nation on the Michigan Bar Exam in 1965.[7]

The firm is currently led by Steven M. Gursten, Larry’s son. Steven Gursten is one of three lawyers in the USA to receive the American Association for Justice (AAJ) Hall of Fame Award for his expertise in semi-truck accident litigation. Steven Gursten has been recognized as “Michigan Lawyer of the Year” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly and consistently voted among the top 50 attorneys in Michigan.[8][9][10]

Notable Cases

Michigan Auto Law Firm has won more than $181.85 million in verdicts and settlements. Many of the firm’s cases have resulted in payments of over one million dollars. The firm holds the record in Michigan for the most million-dollar auto and truck accident cases and for the largest settlements in these categories. Attorney Steven Gursten achieved the highest motor vehicle accident settlement ever reported in Michigan, according to Michigan Lawyers Weekly.[11]

Some of the firm’s major cases include a $102.6 million verdict against General Motors,[12] a $40 million verdict against Marni Yang,[13] a $34.5 million settlement following an insurance offer of $14 million,[14] and a $14.3 million verdict following an insurance offer of $25,000.[15]
