"Lichur Bagane" (Bengali: লিচুর বাগানে, IPA: [ˈlɪtʃʊr bəˈɡɑːne]; transl. In the garden of lychee) is a single by Bangladeshi singer-composer Pritom Hasan, featuring himself and Xefer Rahman. The song is co-penned by Sattar Pagla, Pritom Hasan, Mehedi Ansari and Inamul Tahsin and composed by the singer himself. The single is featured on the soundtrack album of the 2025 Bangladeshi film Taandob, starring first-time collaboration of Shakib Khan and Sabila Nur.[1][2] The song was released on 28 May 2025.
Background
Poet Saroj Mostafa, who has long researched the songs of Sattar Pagla, told Prothom Alo that Sattar Pagla was the lyricist and composer of the song, and that he had preserved the song in manuscript form during his lifetime. Mostafa stated that the song had not been publicly known before the 1980s and that Sattar Pagla was the first to introduce it to a wider audience.
He further noted that the song belongs to the folk tradition of the greater Mymensingh region and is a ghatu (gadu) song. During his adolescence, Sattar Pagla was associated with a ghatu song troupe, and the song is said to have originated from that cultural tradition.[3]
But according to researcher Goutam K Shuvo,
The song is Bengali folk song called Ghatu. Ke Dilo Piriter Bera Lichuro Bagane is the main part of the song. Sattar Pagla has added words to it in his own way. The form written by Sattar Pagla in Netrokona has become famous.
Al Mamun Chowdhury had written down the song after hearing it from Sattar Pagla a few years before his death.[4]
Critical reception
Within just 30 minutes of its release on the YouTube channels of Chorki and SVF, the music video garnered over 80,000 views and nearly 2,500 comments. It's a viral song.[5][6]
