Kevin Keasey

Kevin Keasey is a professor of accounting and finance, and the director of the International Banking Institute and Director of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Finance[1] at Leeds University Business School, University of Leeds.

Early life and education

Keasey was born in Hartlepool on 5 October 1955, and educated at Brinkburn Grammar School.[2] He was a keen rugby player and represented County, and trialled for Northern England, at the School level. He was an economics undergraduate of St Cuthbert’s Society, Durham University and studied for his MA and PhD in economics at Newcastle University.

The hobbies and interests he developed during his early years and university career have lasted him a lifetime and include photography (kevinkeasey.com),[3] woodworking, boats and motorcycles.

Career

He was a Reader in Accounting and Finance at the University of Warwick until 1989 when he was appointed to his current post at Leeds.[4][5]He received the 2025 annual Distinguished Academic Award from the British Association of Finance and Accounting.

In 1997 Keasey established and developed the International Banking Institute. In 2005, he established the Centre for Advanced Studies in Finance (CASIF), a doctoral school specialising in a small number of advanced subjects in finance. During 2009 and 2010 he was responsible for co-ordinating the teaching and research of enterprise studies at the University of Leeds and initiated the Leeds Enterprise Centre. He has held director and non-executive positions at several companies in information technology industry.

Research


He has published more than 150 academic papers in leading academic journals and 14 books, monographs and edited volumes on corporate governance, financial regulation and financial services, small business and financial markets, and behavioural finance. He has supervised more than 50 doctoral students, many now holding senior positions in academia and public/private organisations.
