Sulaimon Alao Adekunle ⓘ popularly known by his stage name KS1 Malaika is a Nigerian Fuji musician who started playing and performing music from an early age in a Quranic school Agege, a suburb of Lagos. His early career included performing [1] Were - the early morning Islamic wake up music during the Ramadan season- before forming his first Fuji band, in 1983[2][3]
Early life and background
Sulaimon Alao Adekunle was born 15 February 1973. With his band[4]Tekoye Fuji Organization, he performed in the United States of America from November 1997, where he toured about 15 states before returning to Nigeria with multi-million naira musical equipment. Since then,[5] he has taken his trade across the world ensuring that the genre called Fuji is well known.[6]
Music career
KS1 Malaika has collaborated with various artistes in different genres of music, including Islamic and gospel musicians,[7] and his music has been sampled by other Fuji and hip-hop artists.[8] Malaika composes, arranges and produces his music, given his versatility and vocal strength.[9] His music incorporates traditional African and Nigerian[10] instruments such as the Gangan, Iya ilu, Bata, Sakara, Agogo, assorted percussions, Guitar, Hawaiian guitar, Keyboard and Saxophone.[11] With a unique call and respond style that many people have now adopted.
