Just Do It Award

The Just Do It Award[1] is a recognition program created by Amazon to honor employees who demonstrate exceptional initiative, creativity, and problem-solving skills in their roles[2],[3].

Criteria and selection

Public descriptions characterize the award as recognizing employees who take initiative to improve a situation, including outside their formal responsibilities.[4][2] A Washington Post profile also describes Bezos discussing the award and the practice of giving a used Nike shoe as a symbolic prize.[1]

According to The Washington Post,[1] Bezos emphasized the importance of actions over titles, promoting a culture where solutions are valued more than hierarchy.

Stanford eCorner[4] (Stanford Technology Ventures Program) describes Amazon’s “Just Do It” award as an internal employee recognition that involves presenting an old Nike shoe, and is given for implementing a “smart” innovation outside an employee’s normal job responsibilities.
