Irus is a genus of saltwater clams, marine bivalve molluscs in the family Veneridae, the venus clams. They are found in varying marine environments worldwide. The Irus is found in the Mediterranean and Red seas to the Atlantic coasts of Europe and Africa.[2] The Southern hemisphere has the Irus elegans and Irus reflexus typically found in New Zealand. Most are adapted to boring into soft rock or nesting in holes on rocky reefs.[3]
