Kim Da-hyun (Korean: 김다현; born May 28, 1998), known mononymously as Dahyun, is a South Korean singer, rapper, and actress. She is a member of the South Korean girl group Twice, formed by JYP Entertainment in 2015.
Dahyun made her acting debut in 2025, appearing in films You Are the Apple of My Eye and Run to You and the television series Love Me.
Early life
Dahyun was born in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, on May 28, 1998.[1][2] She grew up with her parents and has an older brother. At a young age, she began singing with her Christian church choir.[3] She initially had dreams of becoming a piano teacher or court prosecutor before deciding to go into entertainment.[4]
Career
Pre-debut activities

Dahyun first gained attention in sixth grade in elementary school with a dance at church called the "eagle dance", which was posted on YouTube.[5][6][7] Known at the time as the "Big 3" Korean entertainment agencies, Dahyun auditioned for SM, YG, and JYP Entertainment all at once, and was one of only a few idols to be accepted by all three. She eventually decided to join JYP Entertainment after a talent scout saw her performance at a dance festival, and subsequently trained with them for over three years.[8] In 2014 she played the central female character in the music video for Got7's "Stop Stop It".[9] In 2015, Dahyun competed in Sixteen, a reality television show to determine the members of JYP Entertainment's new girl group.[7][10] One of the nine successful participants, Dahyun was subsequently selected to join Twice as a singer and rapper.[8][7]
2015–present: Debut with Twice and acting career

In October 2015, she officially debuted with Twice with the release of their extended play (EP), The Story Begins.[11] Its lead single "Like Ooh-Ahh" became the first K-pop debut song to reach 100 million views on YouTube.[12] Dahyun graduated from Hanlim Multi Art School in 2017.[13] That year, in Gallup Korea's annual music poll, she was voted the seventeenth most popular idol in South Korea.[14][15] In the years following her debut, she has appeared as a host on a number of South Korean music and variety television shows.[16][17][18]
In November 2018, Dahyun was criticized by right-wing Japanese lawmaker Masaru Onodera for wearing a T-shirt made by Marymond, an organization that raises funds to help comfort women who were victims of sexual slavery by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II.[19] In the aftermath, The Korea Times criticized J. Y. Park, founder of JYP Entertainment, for failing to speak up in her defense.[20]
Since Feel Special (2019), she has consistently contributed to Twice's music as a lyricist, becoming one of the group's most prolific songwriters.[21][22] In 2023, she appeared as the female lead in Young K's music video for "Nothing But".[23]
On May 4, 2024, it was announced that Dahyun would be making her acting debut in the independent film Run to You.[24][25] She was also cast in You Are the Apple of My Eye, a Korean remake of the 2011 Taiwanese film of the same name.[26] The film premiered at the 29th Busan International Film Festival in October 2024.[27] In it, she played a studious but quietly rebellious top student. Her portrayal—balancing innocence, humour, and coming-of-age complexity was widely praised as a breakout moment, with critics stating that it solidified her transition from idol to respected screen talent.[28] After much acclaim for her work in the film she received the Rising Star Award at the Busan International Film Festival, the Best New Actress award at the Seoul Global Movie Awards, and the New Star Award at the 29th Chunsa Film Art Awards.[29][30][31]
In 2025, Dahyun was cast in Love Me, a Korean remake of Swedish television series Älska mig (2019–2020).[32] Her performance in the series garnered praise from both critics and audiences, with media outlets pointing to her rapid growth just one year after her acting debut and stating that she had further established her presence as an actress.[33][34] That year, her first solo track "Chess" was featured on Twice's tenth anniversary album Ten: The Story Goes On.[35]
Fashion and endorsements
In March 2021, Dahyun and bandmate Sana were selected as the models for skincare brand A'pieu.[36] In April 2022, Dahyun renewed her contract with A'pieu until 2024.[37] In July 2023, Dahyun was named global ambassador for American fashion brand Michael Kors.[38] On September 10, 2024, Dahyun made her runway debut at New York Fashion Week, wearing the Michael Kors 2025 Spring/Summer collection.[39][40]
