Baghbana Tehsil (Urdu: تحصیل باغبانہ) is an administrative subdivision (tehsil) of Khuzdar District in the Kalat Division of Balochistan.[2] The tehsil is centred around the valley of Baghbana, a fertile region located north of the city of Khuzdar.

Geography

Baghbana is situated in the central part of the Jhalawan region. The landscape is characterized by a high-altitude valley surrounded by the Kirthar and Brahui mountain ranges. The elevation averages approximately 1,200 metres (3,900 ft) above sea level. The region is known for its relatively fertile land compared to the surrounding arid terrain, supported by seasonal streams and traditional Karez irrigation systems.[3]

Demographics

According to the 7th Population and Housing Census of 2023, Baghbana Tehsil is one of the key populated areas of the Khuzdar District. The majority of the population belongs to the Brahui and Baloch tribes. The primary language spoken is Brahui, followed by Balochi.[1]

Administration

The tehsil is administered as part of the Khuzdar District and is divided into several Union Councils. These include:[4]

  • Baghbana (Urban/Rural)
  • Bajori
  • (Other local administrative units)

Economy

The economy of Baghbana is predominantly agricultural. Due to its fertile soil, it is a significant producer of wheat, barley, and various fruits. Livestock herding, particularly sheep and goats, is a traditional mainstay for the rural inhabitants. The tehsil also benefits from its proximity to the N-25 National Highway (RCD Highway), which connects it to Quetta and Karachi.[5]
